BAR1 Motorsports Ready For The Grand Prix Powered By Mazda

Wrapping up the west coast swing for the 2016 WeatherTech Sports Car Championships, BAR1 Motorsports will field drivers Johnny Mowlem and Matt McMurry in the No. 20 ORECA FLM09 Prototype, sponsored by Top 1 Oil and Southwest Funding. The Continental Tire Monterey Grand Prix powered by Mazda (April 29 - May 1) features a pair of two-hour races on the challenging and scenic 2.238-mile circuit. The Prototype (P) and GT Le Mans (GTLM) classes will compete at 11:15 a.m. PT (live, FS1, 2 p.m. ET), while the Prototype Challenge (PC) and GT Daytona (GTD) competitors take the green flag at 4:45 p.m. PT (live, FS2, 6:30 p.m. ET) on Saturday.

“The weekend at Laguna Seca is shaping up to be a fun, great event for us this year,” cited BAR1 owner, Brian Alder. “Top1 Oil will be the primary sponsor on the car for this race. Top 1 has been a BAR1 partner for some time now, so for this race, we wanted to do something special. We will be debuting a brand new livery featuring the very vibrant and recognizable Top1 Oil brand that has carried me to many victories in the IMSA Mazda Lites series. We’re hoping to carry on that success running with them in the PC class.”

“Our drivers,” added Brian, “Johnny and Matt have gelled well together over the past few months. I honestly believe we will have one of the strongest PC driver lineups for the weekend. The crew has been busy at work prepping the car, practicing pit stops, and going over each component with a fine tooth comb so we’ll be ready to capitalize on any opportunity that presents itself!”

“I’m really looking forward to driving with Matt,” said Johnny Mowlem. “He is a very fast young driver with a bright future. It will be a pleasure to work with him. I also love Laguna Seca. The track has been very kind to me in the past. I hope that continues and Matt and I get a fine result for team owner Brian Alder and the whole of his BAR1 Motorsports crew.”

“I’m very excited for the upcoming race at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca,” added Matt McMurry. “It's a great track in a beautiful area. I’m looking forward to driving with Johnny and the whole BAR1 Motorsports crew again. I’m confident the team will surely give Johnny and I a fast car that will take us right up to the podium.”

Practice for the Continental Monterey Grand Prix powered by Mazda begins at 8:45 a.m. PT on Friday, April 29, with qualifying on Saturday at 4:30 p.m. PT. The event also features the IMSA Continental SportsCar Challenge, Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge USA by Yokohama and Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo.

The Prototype Challenge (PC) and GT Daytona (GTD) competitors take the green flag at 4:45 p.m. PT (live, FS2, 6:30 p.m. ET).
