TOP 1 Sponsors Texas A&M SAE Supermileage Team

It is always far easier to follow in somebody else’s footsteps than to be a leader, innovator, and pioneer.

That is why Texas A&M’s SAE Supermileage team, who are competing to build the most fuel-efficient vehicle in the world, have been so impressive.

Comprised of 16 underclassmen from the Women in Engineering program and sponsored TOP 1 Oil, this team is making history as the first ever all-female team to participate in the SAE Supermileage competition. Not only that, this is the first year that Texas A&M has entered any team into SAE Supermileage, so there are no previous participants to help guide them through the steps.

This team has been faced with countless challenges leading up to the competition. Having never participated in SAE Supermileage, they have had to design their vehicle from scratch rather than building upon models from previous competitions. These women have spent late nights in the Engineering Innovation Center working on the project, and have even had to take extra classes to learn how use the University’s machinery, to weld, and to put this vehicle together piece by piece. Yet, they have always risen to the occasion and overcome the real-life like challenges that they have encountered along the way.

This has been a tremendous learning process for the whole team. The innovative spirit and the drive to succeed that these young women possess is an inspiration to us all. With the passion that this team brings to the table, there is no doubt that a bright future lies ahead for each and every one of these future engineers.
